Title: I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
Author: Maya Angelou
ISBN-13: 978-0553279375
What I liked about the book: This book is not about disability. It's about finding your own strength. When I had my daughter and she had disabilities, I had to reinvent myself. Before I was wimpy, shy, invisible. My daughter needed someone who would fight for her. This book set me on that track. If she could do it, I could do it.

Title: Getting to "Yes"
Author: Roger Fisher, William Ury
ISBN-13: 978-0395317570
What I liked about the book: I learned how to be a better negotiator at my daugher's IEP meetings. I never did it perfectly, but I did do it better each time.

Title: How to Get Services by Being Assertive
Author: Charlotte DesJardins, et al.
ISBN-13: None, self published by the Family Resource Center on Disability.
What I liked about the book: It helped me understand the difference between assertive and aggressive. Not that I was always assertive... sometimes i wanted to be aggressive, but at least i knew the difference.

Title: Women's Moods
Author:Deborah Sichel

Title - The Mislabeled Child
Author - Brock Eide, M.D., M.A. and Fernette Eide M.D.
ISBN-13 1-4013-0225-4
What I liked about the book:
Helps to differentiate between various traits and labels in learning issues. They don't get hung up on the label and really help you understand that most labels have many causes and how to deal with the underlying cause of a learning difference. There is one chapter on Autism and disorders that mimic Autism. Also one on problems that are often misdiagnosed as ADHD. There is even a chapter on giftedness and the twice exceptional child. At the end of each chapter is a list of suggestions for the problems and resources.

Title: Leo the Late Bloomer
Author: Robert Kraus (Author), Jose Aruego (Illustrator)
ISBN-13: 978-0064433488
What I liked about the book: The story of Leo is the story of many a child. He does not speak, or
eat nicely. He does not draw or do anything particularly well. This
comes as a bit of a concern to Leo's pop, but him mother reassures him
that in time Leo will "bloom".
